Our mission

As of 2020, the global population has risen to over 7.8 billion, and is expected to increase to 9.8 billion by 2050. Accompanying this population growth will also be an increase in demand on already stressed food, water, and energy resources needed to sustain this growth. We believe that sustainable agriculture is the key to meeting these ever increasing demands and essential for a healthier and more sustainable future for our planet.

Apart from the increasing population and the strain it puts on traditional agricultural resources, there are several other reasons why vertical farming might become essential:

  1. Limited Arable Land: As urbanization continues to expand, the availability of arable land for traditional farming decreases. Vertical farming provides a solution by allowing cultivation in urban environments, utilizing vertical space efficiently.

  2. Climate Change: Erratic weather patterns and extreme climate events due to climate change pose challenges to traditional farming. Vertical farming, with its controlled indoor environments, offers resilience against climate variability and reduces dependence on favorable weather conditions.

  3. Water Scarcity: Traditional agriculture consumes significant amounts of water, contributing to water scarcity issues in many regions. Vertical farming employs recirculating hydroponic or aeroponic systems that use up to 90% less water compared to conventional farming, making it more sustainable in water-scarce areas.

  4. Reduced Carbon Footprint: Vertical farming can be integrated into urban areas, reducing transportation distances between farm and consumer. This localization minimizes carbon emissions associated with long-distance food transport, contributing to environmental sustainability.

  5. Year-Round Production: Vertical farming allows for year-round production of crops regardless of seasonal changes or geographic location. This consistent supply of fresh produce helps meet consumer demand and reduces reliance on seasonal imports.

  6. Food Security: Vertical farming enhances food security by providing a reliable and localized source of fresh produce. It reduces dependency on imports, mitigates supply chain disruptions, and ensures access to nutritious food, especially in urban food deserts.

Overall, vertical farming offers a sustainable and efficient solution to address the challenges of population growth, resource scarcity, and environmental degradation in the context of food production.

Our vision

At Fatherland Farms, we are driven by our commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being. We aim to reshape local agriculture by fostering economic growth while meeting the increasing demand for sustainable, fresh produce in the region. We are committed to providing fresh, locally sourced, and pesticide-free produce to our customers. Our primary customers include local and national distributors, local markets, restaurants, and community members seeking fresh, healthy, and locally sourced produce. We have plans to expand into other states and eventually other countries, but we will always remain true to our roots and our commitment to sustainable agriculture.
